Team fortress 2 is a unique, fun and affordable class based first person shooter, and yet no one I know has ever heard of it.
But games like Halo and Call of Duty are known in almost every household in the country.
the problem is obvious, that attributes such as:
affordability
unique gameplay/style
fun
The solution is simple, we get rid of all these sale-killing innovations.
Step one: Team Fortress' style should be changed to realistic and grimy, many other game developers would be more than happy to lend you a sample of their dirt spectrum's.
Step two: remove the class system, looking at top selling first person shooters for inspiration, players like the ability to carry any weapon they like, and allowing a specific class to excel in one area of the game seems unfair to the other classes, so the class system is a step in the wrong direction.
Step three: dedicated and modding capabilities should be removed, this only leads to bad things, and could damage product image.
I feel that this would give Valve the boost in income they could use to fund upcoming titles, which means we could see Half-Life 2: Episode Three much sooner than previously expected.
